THE decision to build a new stadium on the U of M campus could also lead to the development of a new hotel in the area.
The president of Shindico Inc., the Winnipeg firm that manages the Pembina Crossing shopping centre at the corner of Pembina Highway and Bishop Grandin Boulevard, said the centre's owners are looking into the feasibility of building a new hotel on their property.
"With the new stadium, Pembina Highway should be regaining some of its retail lustre...," Sandy Shindleman said in an interview.
He said the local partnership that owns the mall is already talking to several national hotel chains to gauge their interest in such a project.
"It could be a joint venture or they could manage it on behalf of the (property) owners," he added.
While not imminent, he said a decision on whether to proceed will be made before the end of this year.
