Privacy Policy

The Shindico Group of Companies believes very strongly in the right to privacy for individuals. Privacy is not a new concept for us, as we believe that it is the cornerstone of good business practice. Ours is a relationship business, and we value each relationship with our tenants, suppliers, employees and investors. As well, we recognize that everyone is a potential business partner, and we treat all information received with equal respect and care.

We gather information from our business associates for purposes of verifying identity, assessing suitability and credit worthiness, making payment and collection arrangements, investigating and settling tenancy claims and to comply with legal and tax requirements. In short, we gather the information to transact our business, and use it only for the purposes as stated above.

Under the new legislation, your knowledge and consent to the collection of this information is required. Your consent may be gained explicitly, through a specific written or oral request from our office. Or, it may be implied, by the completion of offers to lease or leases, pre-authorized debit applications, credit applications, or other forms requested by us to process and complete transactions with you, our valued business partner. Either way, you always have the ability to withdraw your consent. However, you should be aware that we might not be able to serve your business needs in an adequate manner if you choose to withhold information requested.

We retain your personal information for as long as it is required to effectively do business with you, and to comply with legal and tax requirements. The information is kept in our files, and our employees only have access to it on a “need to know” basis. The information is kept in secure areas, to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure or misuse. When the information is no longer needed, we take care in destroying it to ensure it is not used for any other purposes.

It is your right to have access to your personal information that is in our possession and control, and also whom the information has been shared with. Should you desire to access your information, please make your request in writing to our Privacy Officer, stating as clearly as possible which information you would like access to. We will respond to all such requests as soon as possible, and if for some reason the request cannot be dealt with in a timely manner, we will let you know right away. Depending on the request, we reserve the right to charge a reasonable fee for the request, to cover our costs in providing the information. A request for information may be denied if the information is protected by solicitor-client privilege, if it would reveal confidential commercial information, if the information was gathered as part of an ongoing fraud investigation or as part of a dispute resolution process or if the information would reveal personal information with respect to another individual. Also, if we reasonably expect that disclosure would be expected to threaten the life or security of another individual, your request will be denied.

Our responsibilities include the requirement to keep your information as up-to-date and accurate as possible for the purposes that the information was gathered. We will make every effort to keep our information as current as is reasonably possible, and we appreciate your assistance in letting us know when this information changes.

This policy is subject to change without notice.
